[...] Purpose/Ed is a forum created by passionate educationalists to provoke conversation around education, with a clear agenda. They want to create a groundswell to kick-start a serious programme of change. Big change. They are going to change the world. I love what they are doing! I got so excited that I signed up. I wanted to attend one of their events and join in the debate. They were sold out. Let’s hope that is a good sign, because it feels like so many groups and people and experts are on a mission. And it feels like the government won’t listen. Can’t listen? (Oh, let’s not start on politics. Back to the issue at hand.) So here’s hoping that Purpose/Ed start making those ripples and bring enough influential people together to create the tidal wave we need. And then I hope that the government will listen. After all, the curriculum is in their hands (for now). [...]

Thanks for the comments, Martin. The site is as it is very much intentionally (focus on on other people's content) although feel free to redesign it!

Fair point about the GMail issue, we'll have a think. :-)

I admire the interview Doug has given the Guardian which is where he refers to the purpose(d) initiative. Whilst I love his cumminsesque way with our tongue, certain points occur. One is that the link seems to want to steer the would-be communicator with your project into the cul-de-sac of having to create a new gmail account. Second, the spare use of formatting on your site make for tiring reading. Third, a serious point. I do not see that one may unpredjudicially assess the purposes of education (presumably 'as-is; and within the canons of our humanistic tradition(s) [cf e.g. the the work of RR Bolgar])and simultaneously campaign for change. What I'd have done would have been to delineate (1)a window of opportunity JUST to obtain facts; (2)a second one to debate them and reflect on them; and (3)a third for proposing strategies of action (albeit political). All the best from Georgia Caucasus
